These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of pathwaytomedicine.com (“the Site”), operated by Pathway to Medicine, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 41-4916973) in Connecticut.
By using the Site, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility and Registration
The Site is open to users of all ages. Account registration is optional; you may browse all content without an account. To create an account, you may register with an email and password or use social login (Google, Facebook, Apple). You must be 13 or older to register. By registering, you represent that you are 13 or older. Users under 18 should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
You are responsible for your account credentials, all activity under your account, providing accurate information, and notifying us immediately of unauthorized access.
2. Educational Content Disclaimer
All content is for informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, professional career counseling or academic advising, financial or legal advice, or a guarantee of any outcome including admission to any program, receipt of any scholarship, achievement of any score, employment in any field, or any specific career trajectory.
We source information from reputable institutions including the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the National Resident Matching Program, individual school websites, and government agencies. Despite our efforts, information may become outdated, incomplete, or inaccurate. Data including admissions statistics, tuition costs, salaries, program details, and deadlines can change without notice. Always verify critical information directly with the relevant source before making decisions.
3. Artificial Intelligence and Text-to-Speech
The “Listen” feature uses ElevenLabs, a third-party AI text-to-speech service, to generate synthetic spoken audio from page text. The voice is artificial, not human. Audio may contain pronunciation errors with medical terminology, proper nouns, and abbreviations. The written text is the authoritative version of all content. The text-to-speech feature is provided as a convenience and accessibility aid, not as a verified alternative to reading.
4. Discussion System
The Site includes a discussion feature on content pages. All comments are submitted for manual review and must be approved before publication. You may vote (upvote or downvote) on published comments. By submitting a comment, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your comment on the Site. You represent that your comments are your own, do not infringe third-party rights, and do not contain harmful, abusive, or illegal content. We reserve the right to reject, remove, or edit any comment at our discretion.
5. Search
The Site uses Meilisearch, a self-hosted search engine. Search indexes are updated when content changes. Search results are generated algorithmically and may not always surface the most relevant content.
6. User Conduct
You agree not to impersonate any person, submit false or misleading information, harass or threaten other users, post spam or advertisements, attempt unauthorized access to the Site or other accounts, use automated tools (bots, scrapers) except as permitted by our robots.txt, interfere with the Site’s operation, use the Site for illegal purposes, or circumvent security measures including Cloudflare protection and Turnstile bot detection.
7. Intellectual Property
All original content, graphics, logos, design, and code are the property of Pathway to Medicine, Inc. You may share links freely, quote brief excerpts with attribution, and use our content for personal educational purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, or republish substantial portions without written permission. Third-party data (BLS statistics, AAMC data, school information) is attributed to its source and used under fair use for education.
8. Third-Party Services
The Site uses third-party services including Cloudflare (CDN, security), Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection), Nextend Social Login (Google, Facebook, Apple authentication), ElevenLabs (text-to-speech), Gravatar (profile images), Rank Math (SEO and structured data), and IONOS (email delivery). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party service availability or practices.
9. Third-Party Links
The Site links to external websites including universities, government agencies, and educational organizations. We do not control, endorse, or assume responsibility for external sites.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, FEATURES, AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR AVAILABILITY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PATHWAY TO MEDICINE, INC., ITS FOUNDER, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, VOLUNTEERS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE, INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED FIFTY DOLLARS ($50). THE SITE IS FREE; THIS LIMITATION REFLECTS THAT NO CONSIDERATION WAS PAID.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Pathway to Medicine, Inc., its founder, officers, directors, volunteers, contributors, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Site, violation of these Terms, violation of any law, or infringement of third-party rights.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause or notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Site ceases. Sections 2, 10, 11, 12, and 14 survive termination.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut. Disputes shall be resolved exclusively in state or federal courts in Connecticut. You consent to personal jurisdiction in such courts.
15. Severability and Entire Agreement
If any provision is unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary. The remaining provisions continue in full force. These Terms, with our Privacy Policy and Disclaimers, constitute the entire agreement.
16. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be noted at the top. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
